The message An error occurred updating a module appears when the module's code fails to render after you change one of its settings. In a child theme the usual cause is an older copy of a file the module depends on. A file at the same relative path in the child theme replaces the parent's version, and a module is built from several files that must belong to the same theme version: the module folder itself, the partials it imports from the templates folder, the template that places it, the base layout that HubSpot copies into every child theme when it is created, and the theme's fields.json. When one of them is an old copy, a setting it does not know about fails, and the module falls back to an unstyled layout.
To fix it, first install any pending theme update from Marketplace > Marketplace Downloads > Themes. Then open your child theme in the Design Manager and list the files it contains; a freshly created child theme holds only theme.json, child.css, child.js and the base layout, everything else is inherited. For every other copied file, delete the copy if you no longer need the changes in it, so the child theme inherits the current parent version. If you still need them, open the current parent file under the @marketplace folder, apply your changes to a fresh copy and replace the old one. Treat the copied base layout the same way. Then reload the page in the editor and change the module settings again.
